The present copy of the first edition of Howard Thurman's classic work is signed by Howard Thurman on the title, and was then later gifted by Kivie and Emily Kaplan in 1963. Howard Thurman was a long time minister and Civil Rights leader. He shared a decade plus relationship with Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta and it was King who helped mentor Thurman as a leader in the non violence movement, etc.
